Harmen Fraanje

He is open to many different kinds of music, which he always irrepressibly translates into his own vocabulary. So it's for good reason that Fraanje is appearing at DJWM 2010 with his Avalonia Trio, because the pianist feels so comfortable with drummer Flin van Hemmen and bassist Clemens van der Feen. Read "Björk: Jazz Muse & Hyperballadeer" reviewed by Ludovico Granvassu

If jazz is, as someone put it, the sound of surprise, then it makes complete sense that countless musicians have become enamored with the music of Björk. Like the most innovative jazz musicians, Bjork is a restless artist who tries to continuously reinvent herself, often blending familiar sources in completely unprecedented ways, and deliberately challenging the ...

Yonathan Avishai Joys and Solitudes ECM Records 2019 Though Yonathan Avishai isn't exactly in solitude on his debut as leader, half the recording is well suited to quiet times away from the world, or perhaps being enjoyed with minimal company—the trio at hand is comfortable with silence as any ECM ensemble ...

Michael Moore: Live in Chicago / Felix Quartet

Mats Eilertsen: Rubicon

Read "Rubicon" reviewed by John Kelman

It's no news to learn that we're the confluence of our many experiences: life, love, music....everything that we are comes from where we've been, what we've done, what we've experienced. That said, it doesn't mean that we can't move in completely new directions or try something completely foreign to us. Still, it's almost impossible to do ...
