Gerard Presencer

Born:

Gerard Presencer is universally recognized as one of the best trumpet / flugelhorn players in his field. His most celebrated recorded performance, which has lead to his being described as "subliminally, the most famous trumpeter in the world", is his solo work on the 3 million selling album by US3, "Hand on the Torch" (1993) on Blue Note. It is Gerards' trumpet that is featured so heavily on the big hit of that CD, Cantaloop. Presencer was born in London on September 12, 1972. At the age of 11 he became a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and at the age of 15 he made his recording debut with the alto Peter King. Presencer had been playing with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra for nearly five years, when he got his first important break

Michael J McEvoy: The Long Way Home

Read "The Long Way Home" reviewed by Bruce Lindsay

Michael J McEvoy is something of a musical chameleon--a composer, instrumentalist and producer who's played a crucial role in many musical projects without grabbing the limelight. He's composed film soundtracks (including 2008's Me And Orson Welles), and worked as musician or producer with an extensive array of artists including Ian Dury, Sting, Scritti Politti, the Bee ...

Elektrojazz: Cars

Read "Cars" reviewed by Jakob Baekgaard

It was Paddy McAloon from the British pop band Prefab Sprout who famously made fun of the fascination with cars and girls on the hit “Cars and Girls," but, indeed, there is a grain of truth behind the joke. Many pop songs are in fact love songs about girls, but what about the cars? A singer-songwriter ...

Michael J Mc Evoy's "The Long Way Home" Available March 10th

This has got instant appeal. And it’s over far too soon. With a melodic 1970s vibe to start with on the title track opener and Gerard Presencer’s bluesy horn commentary over a strong rhythm section of pianist McEvoy joined by Empirical bassist Tom Farmer and the Golden trio’s James Maddren this is the former musical director ...

Jonas Holgersson: 4003

Read "4003" reviewed by Chris Mosey

Four young Swedish musicians and one expat Englishman attempt to reverently recreate hard bop from the 1950s and '60s. The title, 4003, was the catalogue number for Art Blakey's Moanin' (Blue Note, 1958). The album features 12 numbers, most of them considered classics, by the likes of saxophonists Hank Mobley and Clifford Jordan, guitarist Grant Green, ...
