Kaori Yamada

KAORI YAMADA DRUMMER Jazz drummer Kaori Yamada was born in Takamatsu, Kagawa Pref., Japan. Kaori started to learn the piano at the age of 4 and she graduated from the School of Music, at Takamatsu Junior College, majoring in classical piano. Kaori began to play drums on her own initiative at the age of 14. She was particularly interested in Soul, R&B, and Jazz, music her brother was listening to at the time, and she developed a strong desire to become a professional drummer. From 1991 to 1995, Kaori was based in Hiroshima where she qualified as a drum instructor under the R.C.C. Takeshi Inomata Drum School at YAMAHA Music Shops, Chugoku Region. During this period, she contributed to the local community as a volunteer musician, participating in charity concerts and events for a local youth group and welfare facility. In 1994 Kaori was awarded the Best Ensemble Award at the YAMAHA Music Festival. Kaori was introduced to Japan's best-known drummer, the late Motohiko Hino, in 1996. She started training in Tokyo under his supervision and in 1998 her professional drumming career began. Since that time Kaori has given many live performances nationwide leading her own bands "Wet" and later on, "Petit Agasa". Kaori has also worked as a side person for many of her fellow musicians. She has performed with many famous Japanese musicians including Terumasa Hino (tp), Fumio Karashima (pf), Kosuke Mine (ts), Yosuke Inoue (b), etc. In 2007 she moved to New York to broaden her music horizons, and has since played at many venues including Showman’s, Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola of Lincoln Center etc... jazz spots, Cabarets, United Nations, Theaters, School, Churches, Synagogue, Libraries, Bar&Restaurants, Tour, Festivals and more.

Michael Dalgas

Danish drummer educated with a diploma degree at the Academy of Music Michael Dalgas' playing is characterised by a great dynamic range, energetic groove as well as a highly developed sense of time. The music of Michael Dalgas is melodic and often melancholy but with great nearness and character. Michael Dalgas' second solo album with Michael Dalgas Trio called "Death of a Tree" is released on the Danish label Gateway Music 29th of July 2020. Started to play the snare drum at the age of 11 in a local marching band. Starts taking piano lessons in high school and was introduced to music theory, fusion and jazz. Was introduced to drummers like Tony Williams, Elvin Jones, Ben Riley, Philly Joe Jones and Ed Thigpen. Studied at Vestbirk music folk high school in the spring of 2001 Got accepted at the Conservatory of Music in 2002. Master degree from the Conservatory of Music in 2008. Release debute record as bandleader called "Skylight Lounge", 2009 at Barefoot Records. Release second album as bandleader with Michael Dalgas Trio "Death of a Tree, 2020 Gateway Music. Teaches drums guitar, piano and ensemble playing.

Why not start from his roots? Dale was brought up in the mostly upper middle class town and suburb of Philadelphia, Marlton, NJ. The occupations of his immediate family varied from being in warehouse management to being a factory worker, educator, university coach (Don Yonker, NSCAA Hall of Fame), carpenter, butcher (Miller's Grocery, Camden, NJ), farmer, engineer & prison guard and none were based in music.

Though no one was involved in the arts there was continuous support & this sense of rooted diversity has always pushed him towards wanting the same from the musical genres and relationships all of those different players

Calvin Weston

G Calvin Weston was born June 6, 1959 in Philadelphia, PA. He became interested in drums at the age of 6, when he (and his neighbors) discovered his talent for rhythm as he beat on every car on the block. He lived in North Philadelphia where he saw musicians like Stevie Wonder, The Jackson Five and James Brown at the Uptown Theatre. Seeing his attention focused on the drummers, his Father bought him a small set. In high school Calvin learned to read music and played second snare in the drum ensemble. He co-founded the group Bad Influence which played in cabarets and clubs around Philadelphia. At 17, Calvin joined Ornette Coleman's Prime Time Band, with bass player Jamalaadean Tacuma, his close friend from Philly, which toured extensively in North America and Europe

Omar Nuno Martinez

Omar Martinez was born in Buenos Aires Argentina where he studied and began his recording career early on, touring with several bands of different styles including pop, Latin, traditional Jazz, big band, and bop. In 1982, he moved to the US, and studied at Georgia State University and AIM and graduated with honors. Over the years, Omar has performed in Atlanta with a variety of bands ranging in styles from pop to Jazz. He also has recorded several CDs and performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival and the Atlanta Jazz Festival. Most recently, Omar is a drum set instructor at Ken Stanton and has been keeping busy heading up his own musical group “Tango Belt” performing around the region as well as working as a freelance drummer.

Massimo de Majo is a percussionist, an educator, and probably one of the most well-kept secrets in European Jazz. Never indulging in self-promotion, Massimo has often taken directions that have radically changed his career, so - while not widely known by the general public - he's highly regarded by his peers as a true artist and "a musicians' musician".

Italian, born in Rome in 1957, he has spent most of his career abroad, performing with some of the most influential jazz artists in Europe, the U.S.A., Scandinavia, and Japan. During the last thirty years, focusing mostly on performing and teaching, Massimo has also composed for theatre, contemporary dance, video, sound design, and installation art.

Jussi Lehtonen

Jussi Lehtonen Bio Drummer Jussi Lehtonen is an active figure in the Helsinki jazz scene, and he has been playing in the top bands for the past ten years. His playing is known to be energetic, sensitive and swinging, and he can play in many different styles. Lehtonen also leads a few groups under his own name and composes and arranges his own material. His debute cd as a leader (”Firstborn”, Texicalli Records) was released in march 2009. Lehtonen has recorded two albums for Blue Note with U-Street All Stars and appears on several other recordings. He has toured extensively in Europe, and also in North-America, Japan and Indonesia
