Call Me the Breeze: Dave Douglas and Donny McCaslin Play Lynyrd Skynyrd

Read "Call Me the Breeze: Dave Douglas and Donny McCaslin Play Lynyrd Skynyrd" reviewed by Jeff Fitzgerald, Genius

"Play some Skynyrd." Anyone who has ever performed anywhere south of the Mason-Dixon line has heard these words, usually yelled towards the stage by someone whose blood alcohol content is approaching whole numbers, no matter what kind of music they play or where they may be performing. When the inevitable happened recently to Dave ...

Susanna Risberg: Bold As Love

Read "Susanna Risberg: Bold As Love" reviewed by Ian Patterson

Frank Martino

Read "Frank Martino" reviewed by Vincenzo Roggero

1. Dawn of Midi, Dysnomia, (Erased Tapes Records, 2015). Il piano trio più particolare che abbia sentito negli ultimi tempi: il disco è un flusso continuo e ossessivo di frasi ripetute ciclicamente e sezioni che si sovrappongono. Difficile definirlo in modo chiaro. Sembra di ascoltare la musica di Jon Hopkins suonata in formazione acustica ...

Jazz in 1's and 0's

Read "Jazz in 1's and 0's" reviewed by Jeff Fitzgerald, Genius

If one were to happen by the GeniusDome, providing you could navigate the gauntlet of traps and snares leading to the door and pass muster by my parakeet Al Neri, you'd be greeted warmly and welcomed into my inner sanctum. You'd notice a veritable forest of guitars, an inexplicable collection of hot sauces and Barbecue sauces, ...

As the bandleader on David Bowie's final album Blackstar, saxophonist Donny McCaslin witnessed first-hand the musician's penchant for reinvention. McCaslin applied that mindset to his new album Blow, which combines his propulsive saxophone playing with vibrant electronica and bombastic alternative rock, and which contains influences of jazz as well as from the likes of Radiohead and ...
