Jan Harbeck

The charismatic tenor saxophonist and composer Jan Harbeck has previously released four albums in his own name on Stunt Records. He’s won a Danish Music Award, as well as having received both the Bent Jædig and Ben Webster Prizes. Harbeck and his steady band of many years have long been an important presence on most of Denmark’s jazz stages, also enjoying great success around Europe. Over the last decade, the band’s releases have been among the absolute best-selling Danish instrumental jazz records. In addition to his own quartet, Jan Harbeck plays with orchestras including the Tivoli Big Band, Niels Jørgen Steen’s Monday Night Big Band, The Orchestra, and in drummer Snorre Kirk’s band. Harbeck’s expressive, outgoing playing continues in the great Swing tradition

Born in Pescara (Italy) in 1969, he lives in Copenhagen (Denmark) since 1996. He started his studies with the cembalist Chiara Tiboni and graduated at “Conservatorio L. D’Annunzio” in Pescara, in 1993 (teacher: Rachele Marchegiani). In 2002, he graduated at the prestigious Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium in Copenhagen. Jakob Sørensen

The Copenhagen based trumpeter Jakob Sørensen released the renowned debut album Bagland in 2015 and the follow up NOMAD back in 2016 with his own quintet playing his own compositions which really sat course for his future sound and career. In 2019 the third album Cirkel was released. Jakob’s work as a composer has been performed from duos to Big Band’s. Jakob has been touring all over Europe and with his own group in Sweden, Germany and Denmark. His style of playing has been compared to the playing of the ECM artist Nils Petter Molvær.

Relocated to Copenhagen in late 2017, in his natal Madrid (Spain) he played in the house band of several jam sessions comprising more than 12 years of weekly stage routine. Arturo has played with the likes of Chema Saiz, Juan Camacho (CD La estrategia del tiempo, 2008; CD Artesanía popular, 2016), Sebastián Chames, Angel Rubio, and Inoidel González, as well as with various musicians from the American continent (Riner Scivally, Margaret Stowe, Virginia Ramírez, Brenda Hopkins, Paul Brewer, and Juliet Annerino, with whom he played in New York). He has also contributed original compositions for the jazz fusion band Tet-Quart (CD Silencio, 2010) and his Arturo Mora Group (EP Sign of the Future, 2014).

Since arriving on the Danish Jazz scene in 1981 this elegant and explosive musician has been searching relentlessly into the realms of contemporary music, respecting no boundaries. A truly original and virtuoso voice, performing in bands around Europe and Scandinavia, such as his own Offpiste Gurus, 5 Go Adventuring Again, the 13 piece MaLuBa Orchestra, which he co-leads with Marilyn Mazur and Kasper Bai, and with Marilyn Mazur Group, Jon Balke Magnetic North Orchestra and Carsten Dahl.
