Kym Ambrose

Born: June 4, 1961

Kym's prpofessional career began at 16 when he started playing vibes. He'd already been playing drums with his father's jazz ensemble for a few years before this. After studying with Jim Bailey in Adelaide, Kym moved to Sydney in the early 80's to undertake a Diploma in Jazz at the N.S.W. Conservatorium of Music, with teachers such as the legendary Don Burrows. Kym's work on kit and vibes continued predominantly in the jazz and blues scene, backing international artists in between doing resident gigs at clubs throughout Sydney in the 80's and early 90's. His passion for, and focus on, the vibraphone deepened when he moved to the less manic city of Brisbane, and met his now wife Anje West, with whom he founded The View From Madeleine's Couch, considered one of Australia's best, and certainly most distinctive Brazilian music ensembles. His first trip to Brazil took place in 2004, where he studied under the great pianist/composer/arranger Alberto Farah, who was a huge influence on Kym's composing and arranging style

Richard Seymour

Played since 4 years of age. Have played all orchestral percussion instruments. Anje West

Born: April 6, 1966

In 1998, with no Portuguese language skills, but a heart full of desire to perform Brazilian music, Anje, along with husband and musical director Kym Ambrose (vibes) founded The View From Madeleine's Couch; a band still going strong 17 years down the track, and specialising in their own original Brazilian-influenced music and their favourite tunes from the bossa, samba, forro and baiao realms. This is a band that has very much put their own stamp on the genre, preferring to take the music and run off somewhere beautiful with it. Rather than exacting replication, the music is performed with reverence and respect to its roots, and the band's sound remains unique in Brazilian/Jazz music in Australia. Anje is considered one of Australia's finest interpreters of the genre, and is an award-winning songwriter, taking out the Queensland Music Award for World Music Song of the Year in 2009

Clyde Robert Schipke

Born: March 21, 1957

Clyde schipke is the guitarist and main composer for the Australian fusion band INDABA. He also is one of the leading guitar instructors in Brisbane, Australia. Clyde has been a professional guitarist for over twenty years, and has extensive experience in the Australian music industry. Indaba's first release "Something Serious" is available through Abstract Logix in the USA, and Vorticity Music in Australia. Indaba's second release will be available shortly.
