Mike Tomaro

Mike Tomaro has been the Director of the Jazz Studies Program at the Mary Pappert School of Music at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA since 1997.  The saxophonist, composer, arranger and educator earned his B.S. degree in Music Edu­cation from Duquesne and his M.A. degree in Saxophone Perfor­mance from George Mason University.  Prior to his appointment at Duquesne, he lived in the Washington, D.C. area for seventeen years as a member of the Army Blues Jazz Ensemble, a unit of the prestigious “Pershing’s Own” U.S. Army Band.  While a member of this group, he served as its Enlisted Musical Director and performed for Presidents Reagan, Bush and Clinton as well as heads of state from around the world.  He also composed and/or arranged much of the Army Blues repertoire and was featured as a soloist on several of the group’s albums and CDs.  Mike is a Yamaha Performing Artist and Vandoren Diamond Artist.

Multi award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter, pianist and CBC Music national radio host Laila Biali has headlined festivals and venues spanning five continents from New York City’s Carnegie Hall to Beijing’s National Centre for the Performing Arts, and supported international icon Sting. In 2020, Laila was honoured by SOCAN Music with the Hagood Hardy Award for Excellence in Songwriting. In 2019, Laila’s eponymous release won her a JUNO (Canada’s GRAMMY) for “Vocal Jazz Album of the Year.” The year prior, she was awarded top prize at the Canadian Songwriting Competition in the Jazz category

David Hall

David Hall is jazz musician and educator from the UK. David studied at Cambridge University, where he held an Organ Scholarship at Corpus Christi College, and at the Royal Academy of Music in London. At Cambridge, he played alto sax in the University "Fitz" Swing Band and led several small bands. He now directs and writes for the Black Cat Big Band. The Black Cats play regularly at the Concorde Club in the UK, often featuring David's own charts and vocal arrangements. David is Musical Director of Finchcocks Piano Courses. Finchcocks is an amazing Grade I listed home in the Kent countryside

Frank Macchia

Born and raised in San Francisco, CA., Frank started on the clarinet at the age of ten years old. Soon afterward he began studies on bassoon, saxophone and flute. By the age of fourteen he began studying composition, writing jazz and classical pieces for his high school band and orchestra and for jazz ensembles that rehearsed at the local union hall, including trumpeter Mike Vax's Big Band. In 1975-76 Frank wrote jazz/classical hybrid works that were performed by the San Francisco Symphony and local professional jazz musicians at the Summer Music Workshop Programs, and he composed and conducted an orchestral overture for his high school graduation ceremony

Neal Kirkwood

Neal Kirkwood, composer, pianist, writes music for jazz and contemporary classical ensembles. He has composed for jazz big band, classical ensembles, vocal ensembles, solo piano and full orchestra. He has received commissions from the New York State Music Fund; the New York State Council for the Arts; the Children’s Aid Society; the Jazz Composer’s Alliance and Belgian ensemble Octurn.

As a band leader, Neal Kirkwood has recorded six CDs: "Welcome To My Dream" (self-released, 2021) “Blue Inventions” (Present Eye Music, 2019); “Time’s Circle,” (Present Eye Music, 1996); “The Neal Kirkwood Octet”; “The Chromatic Persuaders”; “Extrospection” (Timescraper Records). Currently Mr. Kirkwood conducts and plays in his 17-piece ensemble, The Neal Kirkwood Big Band, in New York City.

After Studies at Illinois Wesleyan University and Roosevelt University. Mr. McGahan found himself the chief arranger for both the Deja Vu Big Band and the Ron Smolen Orchestra. Since 1986, Jon has been actively composing, arranging and playing Trumpet, Trombone and Euphonium for these groups, as well as the Revolutionary Swing Orchestra and the Sicilian Band of Chicago and other Jazz and Concert bands in the Chicago area, including his own group,the Stardust Big Band.

David Kolinski-Schultz is a professional arranger and woodwind performer, and an alumnus of the Arranging and Composition program at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He has just launched PDQ Music Publishing, and has a number of arrangements available on Sheet Music Plus including charts for Jazz Ensemble, String Quartets, & Brass Quintets. David has arranged for, and performed with, the horn sections of several groups over the years, recently celebrating 30 years with Jimmy and the Soulblazers. David has had the pleasure during his career of opening for and/or backing up such diverse artists as The Four Tops, Martha Reeves, Jerry Lewis, Ray Charles, and Rosemary Clooney
