This week opens in memoriam: a tribute EP for the late AACM pianist and educator Ann "Mama Ann" Ward, played by the Chicago improvisers who came up under her. From there the hour turns to two young horn players remaking their own instrument's vocabulary, before settling into this week's TheTonearm.com lineup: Suzanne Ciani's synthesizer music rescored for orchestra, Seattle's own forró sextet Foleada sharing a set with Shana Falana, a forty-year-old Arthur Russell collaboration only now seeing release, and fifteen minutes of Toronto noise to close.
