William Parker, Lisa Sokolov, Cooper-Moore: Stan's Hat Flapping in the Wind
Del sessantaquattrenne bassista newyorchese ritroviamo peraltro diverse stimmate, in questo pur inusuale lavoro, a cominciare da quella massiccia tendenza -molto nera -al didascalismo che già infarcisce la sua produzione strettamente musicale (dove è anche strumentista e caporchestra, cioè) e che qui, gioco forza, è ancora più marcata: le dediche non si contano, toccando spesso artisti con cui Parker ha incrociato lo strumento.
L'avvio è elegante e quasi docile, poi la temperatura sale, c'è una maggiore pienezza, un maggior brio, talora anche una lieve verbosità. Qua e là si scantona verso il recitativo, altrove si avverte una qualche rigidità, sempre alternando (secondo copione, del resto) momenti più densi ad altri più essenziali, fino al trittico di commiato in cui, nel nome di David S. Ware, si aggiunge dapprima il violoncello, confezionando l'episodio forse migliore del disco, per tornare quindi al duo, elegante quanto basta, e chiudere con un solo vocale in sovraincisione.
Ora presumiamo che Parker tornerà a faccende per lui più usuali. Il futuro ci dirà quale peso, nell'economia globale della sua arte, vada dato a questo lavoro, che per il momento archiviamo come una non prevista deviazione. Con diversi pregi e qualche debolezza.
