Diagonal - Jean Christophe Cholet: Slavonic Tone

Colto studioso del folklore musicale europeo, Jean Christophe Cholet ha già dedicato due importanti progetti al repertorio delle Alpi ed al retaggio anglo-sassone. La sua ricognizione sonora si sposta ora ad est, nel difficile tentativo di coniugare gli stilemi del jazz con una documentata rilettura del mondo slavo.

Obiettivo centrato in pieno, a giudicare dalle sei composizioni originali e dall’arrangiamento di due temi resi celebri dalle “Voix Bulgares”. Marce; variopinti movimenti a cadenza libera; tradizione bandistica dei Balcani; innesto del linguaggio jazzistico contemporaneo con tempi dispari: sono gli elementi chiave di questo stuzzicante disco realizzato per Altrsuoni, con il prezioso sostegno di un lungimirante ente locale d’Oltralpe.

E poi ci sono le sonorità estremamente accattivanti di un tentetto dalla gioiosa forza trascinante, che ama arricchire il proprio armamentario più rigorosamente jazzistico con strumenti legati alla tradizione popolare europea.

Il tutto sostenuto da una rigorosa organizzazione orchestrale magistralmente allestita dal leader, attento ad un rigoroso equilibrio fra tensione e distensione, tra accelerazione e cambi di tactus. Un’architettura sonora aperta peraltro all’indeterminatezza, con strutture aperte e sospese.

Non meno importanti risultano le eccellenti individualità, per far spiccare il volo con scioltezza e dinamismo a questo policromo percorso. Fra tutte si stagliano alcune eccellenze davvero di spicco: il trombone di Geoffroy de Masure; la tuba di Arnaud Boukhitine; il sax di Vincent Mascart.
