The Rempis Percussion Quartet: Rip Tear Crunch
La presenza di due batteristi/percussionisti costituisce l’elemento sorpresa della registrazione: non solo Rosaly e Daisy non appesantiscono né caricano eccessivamente dal punto di vista ritmico il fluire della musica ma addirittura creano un intreccio sospeso, a tratti etereo. Le mille sfumature e le infinite aree timbriche ottenute costituiscono così uno stimolante trampolino di lancio per le scorribande dei sassofoni di Rempis, con lo strepitoso contrabbasso di Hatwich a fungere da centro propulsivo e indispensabile collante.
Centro nevralgico della registrazione è il lungo brano che dà il titolo all’album: una sezione iniziale dal groove ipnotico, quasi funky con il sax baritono che si muove agile e guizzante, poi un lucido assolo del contrabbasso introduce un tour de force di Rampis al sax alto, in grado di incendiare gradualmente il climax del brano con sovracuti, strilli e grida, sempre in pieno controllo. Poi di nuovo il baritono questa volta nella sua versione placida e meditativa, quasi bucolica a chiudere un vero gioiello di forza ed eleganza.
