RIP Jack DeJohnette

The great Jack DeJohnette passed away on October 26, 2025. His epic career is matched only by Miles Davis, whom DeJohnette began playing with in 1969 and later introduced to fusion in 1999's Bitches Brew (Sony Records, 1970). He played with everybody, from Miles to Pat Metheny.

One of my favorites was his work with Bill Evans and Eddie Gomez on Some Other Time: The Lost Session From The Black Forest (Resonance Records, 2016). It was recorded in 1968, five days after the famous Montreux Jazz Festival. Due to licensing issues it languished for nearly five decades before its release in 2016.

It was the only studio recording featuring Evans, DeJohnette, and Gomez. I offer the title track.

RIP Jack. Thanks for the music.
