Steven Bernstein, Scotty Hard: ResoNation Trio/Ultra Resonance
Il ResoNation Trio, protagonista dei primi dieci brani, agisce in un perimetro strettamente acustico, però con quale originalità, quale gusto per la scoperta a getto continuo... Coerente, certo, ma senza che ciò scivoli mai nel prevedibile o nell'ingessato, nell'univoco. Il trio batte sentieri alti (a tratti anche sospesi), ispirati, appunto cangianti nella loro assoluta consequenzialità, il tutto favorito—come esiti, intendiamo—anche dalla durata contenuta dei vari episodi.
Tutto muta nei brani che vanno dall'undicesimo al diciottesimo. Qui, intanto, la paternità è quanto meno condivisa con Scotty Hard, con la componente elettronica che si fa incalzante, qua e là persino incapsulante, fin troppo "coprente," se così possiamo dire, in un magma timbrico-dinamico (quasi mai convulso, per carità) decisamente più composito, in qualche misura sfuggente. Ciò non toglie che anche questa pelle bernsteiniana (col trombettista che aggiunge l'EVI ai precedenti tre strumenti imboccati, comunque sempre dominanti), come dicevamo fortemente debitrice verso Hard, offra spunti interessanti, anche se può magari risultare più faticoso districarvisi. Quale musica (o oggetto d'arte in generale) degna di nota non richiede del resto uno sforzo di attenzione vs. comprensione?
Due dischi in uno, quindi, l'abbiamo detto. Due facce della stessa medaglia? Pure.
