Sin dall'iniziale ”Nardis”, si capisce bene quale sia la ricerca timbrica del sound per arrivare al modo di costruire gli assoli. Niente di nuovo, ma tutto scorre magnificamente bene senza cali di tensione grazie alla classe sopraffina dei musicisti di questo quartetto. Ricontestualizzati con fine senso architettonico, i brani interpretati si avvalgono della discrezione dei quattro compagni di viaggio che agiscono sotto traccia, senza grandi stravolgimenti personali.
La consueta fantasia esecutiva di Liebman è tale da riservare all'ascoltatore quei colpi d'ala che scongiurano la trappola di un intellettualistico esercizio tecnico-formale. Le modalità coltraniane si impongono nel brano davisiano come segno di apertura di una ricerca analitica, che ben si sposa all'intima adesione alla tradizione. Unita ad un invidiabile jazz feeling, la versatilità fa dei sette brani un piccolo concentrato di buon gusto e raffinatezza. Questo trait d'union concorre alla realizzazione di un progetto empatico, sobrio e di indubbia godibilità. Ideale per chi ama bagnarsi nelle limpide acque della tradizione.
