Vi si riscontra un apprezzabile gioco di dinamiche all'interno delle varie composizioni, che traggono altresì forza nella concezione ritmica aperta e circolare del leader, più che promettente allievo di Peter Erskine. Oltre che per la scelta felice dei compagni di viaggio, la sua proposta si rivela valida ed interessante per la varietà espressiva che la caratterizza per un itinerario che diviene via via sensuale, ritmicamente frastagliato ed anche delicatamente intimistico.
Ad unire il tutto la sobria incisività dei musicisti, nel contemperare estro, gusto, sapienza, istinto per un progetto ricco di colori e sfumature, con un percorso musicale che pare svilupparsi da una reale urgenza espressiva, più che da una mera esigenza discografica. A partire dall'eccellente pianista Gerald Clayton, la scena è ugualmente divisa tra vari solisti, per condividere un flusso di idee melodiche e ritmiche davvero rilevanti per continuità e fantasia.
