Curtis Stigers with the Danish Radio Big Band: One More For The Road
Quasi tutto il disco è stato inciso dal vivo a Copenhagen nel gennaio 2014 con Stigers accompagnato dalla Danish Radio Big Band che rilegge gli originali arrangiamenti di Quincy Jones, Billy May e Nelson Riddle. Solo alcuni brani (come "The Lady Is a Tramp," "Summer Wind" e "They Can't Take That Away from Me") non erano presenti nel disco originale, pur appartenendo al repertorio di "The Voice."
Il compact è un perfetto regalo per gli amici -dai quaranta in su -che seguono superficialmente il jazz. L'orchestra danese è un organico d'eccellenti strumentisti e gli arrangiamenti sono eseguiti alla perfezione, con professionalità e calore, in una bell'alternanza di climi raffinati e swinganti. Stigers s'esprime con padronanza ritmica, brillantezza d'intonazione e buona sensibilità jazz. Altri cantanti (penso a Mark Murphy o Kurt Elling) avrebbero aggiunto apporti personali più consistenti ma non è il caso di fare paragoni. Il disco vuol essere un fedele omaggio a un'opera indimenticabile e in questo senso coglie nel segno.
