Riccesi Zanoner 4tet: Night Ways
Vi troviamo dentro canzoni della tradizione irlandese e belle composizioni jazzistiche come l'iniziale "Vibe" di Baptiste Trotignon, brani di Paolo Conte e Fabrizio De André, ma anche di Manu Chao e del contrabbassista Kyle Eastwood, figlio dell'attore e regista Clint ("Gran Torino" è infatti tratta dalla colonna sonora dell'omonimo film), fino ad "Averti tra le braccia," composizione di Tenco qui proposta seguendo l'arrangiamento di Luca Flores, con il quale Riccesi ha lavorato prima della prematura scomparsa. E, a concludere, la title track a firma di Riccesi, una ballad dai toni sospesi ed evocativi.
La cifra è quella di un jazz moderno venato di espressività anni Sessanta/Settanta, con il tenore di Riccesi che si spinge sovente in assolo prolungati, degni delle stagioni "politicizzate" del jazz afroamericano. È d'aiuto in questo il corposo contrabbasso di Danilo Gallo, che attraversa trasversalmente tutta l'incisione, mentre il piano del co-leader Claudio Zanoner opera spesso un effetto di straniamento (ad esempio in " Mo Ghile Mear"), contrapponendo note alte e stilemi più lirici alla voce del tenore.
Ne scaturisce un disco dall'appeal immediato, che unisce espressività passionale a una sua leggerezza, che si ascolta (e riascolta) con gusto, ed ha forse i suoi punti più alti nel brano di apertura e nelle due composizioni irlandesi.
