Danilo Gallo

Born in Foggia, Italy, in 1972; based in Milan.

He has maintained an active international concert schedule for over 30 years.

He plays electric bass, double bass, bass balalaika, and guitar.

His work spans genres from jazz and rock to improvised music, as well as collaborations where music interacts with other disciplines such as theater, dance, poetry, and cinema.

He leads internationally acclaimed groups such as DARK DRY TEARS, DANILO GALLO - EDE - "EURISTIC DATA EXCHANGE," and GALLO & THE ROOSTERS, and co-leads GUANO PADANO and THE LAST COAT OF PINK.

Among the many musicians Danilo has had the pleasure of performing with across the globe are Uri Caine, Marc Ribot, Gary Lucas, Mike Patton, Bill Frisell, Rob Mazurek, Hamid Drake, Chris Speed, Jim Black, Wayne Horvitz, Sainkho Namtchylak, Sam Amidon, Will Bernard, Trilok Gurtu, Steven Bernstein, Don Moye, Bob Mintzer, Benny Golson, John Tchicai, and Steve Grossman, alongside Italian artists such as Enrico Rava, Roberto Ottaviano, Gianluigi Trovesi, Francesco Bearzatti, and Giancarlo Schiaffini.

Danilo won the "Top Jazz 2010" poll organized by *Musica Jazz* magazine as Best Bassist and the "Insound Trophy" (from the magazine of the same name) as Best Bassist in 2011. He has also ranked highly in other awards, such as the Jazzit Awards—placing first as a double bassist in 2014 and consistently ranking in the top ten to this day.  In 2020, he was recognized in *Musica Jazz* magazine’s "Top Jazz" rankings as Best Musician, and for Best Group (*Dark Dry Tears*) and Best Album (*Hide, Show Yourself!*)—all as a bandleader—while also appearing as a sideman on other winning albums, notably those by Roberto Ottaviano and Francesco Bearzatti.

He has approximately 150 recordings to his credit.

He is a professor of Jazz Electric Bass at the Catania Conservatory and teaches Jazz Ensemble and Pop-Rock Composition Techniques at the Trapani Conservatory.
