Sam Ospovat
Sam Ospovat (b. July 26, 1978, Lincoln, Nebraska) is a drummer, percussionist, composer, and improviser whose work crosses jazz, experimental rock, modern classical, and new music. His multi-faceted career—spanning diverse performance settings, deep formal training, and bold compositions—showcases him as a distinctive voice in contemporary percussion and experimental music. His work as a leader, sideman, and educator reflects a deep commitment to sonic exploration and rhythmic innovation. Ospovat is featured in the new Lydia Lunch Documentary “Artists: Depression, Anxiety and Rage,” and appeared in the 2005 Cecil Taylor documentary “All the Notes.” He has worked with some of the most innovative players in contemporary music including Angelica Sanchez, John Hébert, Terry Riley, Ches Smith, Ava Mendoza, Matt Mitchell, Tuneyards, Brandon Seabrook, Bill McHenry, Kim Cass, Tim Dahl, Willie Winant, Raoul Björkenheim, Jaime Branch, Mikko Innanen, Weasel Walter and Mat Maneri.
