Concord
2003

Compiled from Concord’s Turn Up The Heat, Drive, Both Sides, Reunion, Hypnotic, California, La Samba, Keep Reminding Me, Caribbean Breeze, Come With Me, Heaven and Joyful, this program of Latin-tinged, easy listening favorites includes four “camera angles,” which portray different visual aspects of the ocean’s wave movements and its mesmerizing quality. Reissued tracks from Peak Records, Concord Vista, and Concord Picante are included in this gentle, smooth jazz production.

You can switch casually between “camera angles” during play. Each visual accompaniment is intended to provide a relaxed environment in which you can simply lay back, watch, listen, and “chill out.” Live, slow motion waves, out at sea, give you a warm, rocking feeling to accompany the gently rocking music. Alternatively, changing ocean sunsets can be selected to offer calm serenity. Artists’ depictions of ocean sunsets add a different dimension to the album’s virtual scenery number three, while “angle four” provides complete artist, album and recording information for the track that’s playing.

Octaves, unisons, and other open methods of creating simple harmony leave the listener feeling clean and refreshed. Simple, backbeat rhythms and pastel background textures that have been subjected to added post-production, pump a lot of special effects into one tiny space. The result is a bushel full of sweet delights. Jeff Linsky’s fluid guitar, Dave Valentin’s ethereal flute, Tania Maria’s precious vocals, Gerald Albright’s suave melodies, and Phil Perry’s guy-next-door persuasion leave you feeling completely relaxed. This is music to accompany your daily trip to the sauna, your after-dinner conversation, or your midday nap.
