Uri Caine: Moloch: The Book of Angels, Vol. 6
C'è qualcosa di obliquamente "fisico" nelle diciotto composizioni ["Rimmon" compare due volte, in apetura e chiusura] di Moloch, quasi che la musica di Zorn venisse, nelle mani di Caine, trasformata in un'altra essenza, a prima vista secolarizzata, ma vista nuda nella sua umanità, quasi che degli angeli osservassimo la trippetta rosata invece che le ali.
C'è infatti molto Uri Caine nel disco, moltissimo. C'è il suo pianismo, scampanellante e fisico, affamato di stili, ben guarnito di accordi pieni, spesso giocato su registri di esibita dialettica tra drammaticità e ironia. C'è il suo portare la musica di matrice ebraica in mezzo alla strada, insidiata dalle lusinghe di un jazz club come dalla frenesia della vita urbana.
Sono angeli terribilmente vicini a noi, questi che Caine ci suona, quasi che la natura folk dei temi necessitasse di una lente per renderci meglio conto della sua necessità. Non che il disco sia esente da qualche prevedibilità [e alla lunga ha il difetto di non mantenere la concentrazione dell'ascolto], ma non c'è dubbio che l'incontro tra due personalità così forti come quella dello Zorn compositore e del Caine esecutore [che non si può scindere ovviamente dalla sua complessità espressiva] abbia degli esiti materici che non si possono ignorare. Il "nostro caro angelo"!
