Miles the Composer Part 3: The second great quintet

Click the play button to listen

Miles Davis wasn't a prolific composer, and he wrote even less in his later years. There are some classic tunes from the late '50s, and a few written for the second great quartet. Many of these compositions have stood the test of time to become jazz standards..

In this hour you'll hear the two tunes written for his wife Frances Davis, "Fran Dance" and "Pfrancing." Other classic Davis tunes you'll hear include "Seven Steps to Heaven," "Teo," "Nardis," "Filles de Kilimanjaro" and "Miles Runs the Voodoo Down."

Featured Jazz artists include Enrico Rava, Simon Moullier, Ron Carter, SFJazz, and Joey Calderazzo.
