Three new recordings by excellent reed players highlight this edition. Italy's multi-instrumentalist Marco Colonna fronts a risk-taking trio with double bassist Dario Miranda and drummer Sandro Satta - Roberto Bellatalla - Fabrizio Spera on their recording N-EST, while one of the hottest saxophonists in the universe—James Brandon Lewis—is a member of Resilient Vessels, a quartet assembled by bassist and visual artist Josh Werner for a residency. Spain's Muriel Grossmann has her usual quintet with her on Quiet Earth , where she continues to reflect spiritual and African inflluences. The Italian Trio WE-3 debuts while the jump-back in time heads to a sample of the first Egyptian big band formed by drummer Salah Ragab and a recently-discovered track by the late Polish violinist, Zbigniev Seifert. Plenty more good stuff for you, including a very topical closer from Jaimie Branch!
