Massimo Vescovi Quartet: Luci e ombre
L'uso della chitarra acustica da parte di Vescovi ci porta fuori dalle consuete frasi usate dai chitarristi jazz e dai consueti sviluppi che si ascoltano da questo tipo di formazione. La magia dell'improvvisazione funziona, il dialogo all'interno di strutture molto precise è di quelli memorabili e lo sviluppo dei temi procede in modo serrato e convincente. La formula di un jazz italo-mediterraneo viene sviluppata nel migliore nei modi, grazie anche alla qualità della registrazione, con gli strumenti così presenti e quasi palpabili.
Nell'atipicità del tessuto timbrico si trova la migliore qualità del gruppo, una caratteristica che lascia subito una traccia nell'ascoltatore. La loro musica a programma funziona, efficace, ascoltabile, radicata com'è in una tradizione che ormai sembra caratteristica per il jazz italiano.
