Benché a nome di Silvia Schiavoni, è Giancarlo Schiaffini, con i suoi Phantabrass, il protagonista di questo CD, dedicato al genio compositivo dei fratelli George e Ira Gershwin. Il fascino del disco risiede appunto nell'esuberante tessitura strumentale degli undici brani, ai quali il trombonista dona nuova verve, immettendovi la più moderna sintassi jazzistica.

Trascinanti riff e zigzaganti sviluppi ritmici lo illuminano, per rivitalizzare la sobria purezza melodica di un songbook immortale, rieseguito con trasporto dalla Schiavoni. Più avventuroso della voce è il lavoro di arrangiamento strumentale, all'insegna dell'apertura delle forme. Alla base vi è un incalzante, profondo pulsare della ritmica al servizio di ance vociferanti ed armonicamente fluide.

È un riuscito tentativo di dare un significato nuovo al repertorio interpretato, per farlo pulsare con il cuore nuovo della contemporaneità. Percussività e ritmi debitamente accentuati, per una rilettura estroversa ed autorevolissima.
