La Compagnie de la Coquille: Les jazzventures de Pinocchio
Il lavoro è eclettico ma composto, procede con chiari intenti descrittivi - esaltati dalla presenza di un libretto nel quale la vicenda del burattino di legno viene ripercorsa attraverso belle illustrazioni di Catherine Chlaeffli, ciascuna delle quali rinvia alle tracce del CD - e offre numerosi scenari nei quali i singoli musicisti possono esprimersi con una certa libertà. Fa da leitmotiv il “tema di Pinocchio”, con il quale il lavoro si apre e che poi ritorna più volte nei momenti topici della narrazione.
Musicalmente l’atmosfera è molto "francese", con il trombone di Samuel Blaser a svolgere un ruolo descrittivo, affiancato spesso da uno dei contrabbassi, mentre il flauto di Julien Monti ha spesso una funzione cromatica, di concerto o in contrasto con il trombone, ma talora si assume eccellentemente il ruolo di leader (ad esempio in “Lumignon”). Eccellenti i contrabbassi di Popol Lavanchy e Olivier Nussbaum, così come il piano di Emilien Tolck, particolare è il ruolo dell’autore delle musiche, che nel gruppo siede alla batteria e alle percussioni, con movenze talora (per una volta giustamente) circensi.
Un disco intelligente e ben realizzato, con modalità più sofisticate di quanto non possa apparire ad un primo ascolto.
