Jeff Lederer's Swing n'Dix: Jeff Lederer's Swing n'Dix
Swing'n'Dix era il nome della band di ragazzotti che negli anni settanta giravano per la California del sud suonando il jazz delle origini in controtendenza rispetto ai coetanei innamorati della surf music e della pop music. Swing'n'Dix è il nome della band che Lederer ripresenta a distanza di trent'anni per ricordare un epoca ricca di fermenti come di speranze e per tenere in vita il ricordo di Jeff Walker, che di quella band era il talentuoso clarinettista.
Ma non solo Dixie in questo album che ha la freschezza di un gelato al limone, perché "My Sweet Home in Zion" riprende la tradizione musicale ebraica Shaker così cara al Lederer e splendidamente coltivata nel gruppo Shakers'n'Bakers (recuperate il CD Yearning for Zion, ne vale assolutamente la pena). Mentre "E.S.P.," brano tratto da uno splendido disco del 1964 firmato Duke Pearson, è hard-bop colto nella sua veste più swingante e festosa con i solisti che si sbizzarriscono ed il basso-tuba a pestare duro come nella miglior tradizione delle fanfare.
