Interstatic: Interstatic

Di fronte ad un trio chitarra elettrica, organo Hammond e batteria non si può non pensare al Tony Williams Lifetime che, tra il 1969 e 1970, cambiò la faccia del jazz-rock. Eppure, in questo caso i punti di contatto con quella torrenziale ed imprescindibile esperienza non sono così accentuati. Semmai gli Interstatic ricordano piuttosto il trio di John Abercrombie con l'organista Dan Wall e il batterista Adam Nussbaum.

Questo gruppo di musicisti nordici (Powell è inglese ma risiede in Norvegia) ha già pubblicato l'album Anthem nel 2011 (anche se all'epoca il trio non si chiamava Interstatic ma semplicemente Young/Powell/Vespestad) e sembra voler proseguire su un percorso ambient più cinematico e visionario, rallentato e dilatato. Il linguaggio del chitarrista Jacob Young è decisamente diverso da quello di John McLaughlin, mentre per Ray Powell e per Jarle Vespestad non pare affatto peregrino evocare riferimenti con Larry Young e con Tony Williams.

La solennità quasi ecclesiastica di "Real Time" ci porta proprio su un altro pianeta, mentre la successiva "Interstatic" riapre un canale di comunicazione con il jazz rock, specialmente per la batteria incalzante di Jarle Vespestad.

In generale la musica proposta da questo trio sembra ancora alla ricerca di uno spazio e di una dimensione anche se ci piace pensare che il loro progetto voglia lavorare più sui percorsi da intraprendere che non sulle mete da raggiungere. Aspettiamo altri segnali. Possibilmente più 'cattivi.'
