L'ottimo approccio angolare della iniziale "Mai" ricorda subito lo spirito ribelle ed iconoclasta di Thelonious Monk e il bell'assolo di Tobias Hoffmann ci porta dalle parti del McLaughlin di Extrapolation. Sensazione che viene confermata dall'ascolto dei successivi nove brani, forse anche a causa della strumentazione che sostanzialmente duplica proprio quella di quell'album eccellente, una delle cose migliori espresse in assoluto dal jazz europeo.

Ovviamente sono passati tanti anni (Extrapolation venne registrato a Londra a metà del mese di gennaio del 1969, poche settimane prima che McLaughlin partisse per New York, per raggiungere Tony Williams che lo voleva nel suo nuovo gruppo) e quindi molte cose sono cambiate nel frattempo. E questi cambiamenti li ritroviamo ampiamente nella musica di questo quartetto guidato dal batterista Max Andrzejewski, ma la sensazione di apparentamento rimane ben presente.

Non mancano sezioni sperimentali, rarefatte e dense di riflessioni. I quattro musicisti dimostrano grande dimestichezza coi loro strumenti e sanno suonare assieme in maniera encomiabile, sostenendosi a vicenda e prendendo assoli carichi di idee, sempre ben inserite nel flusso della musica. Il disco è stato registrato a Berlino nel mese di luglio del 2011. Chissà se pioveva...
