Painting: Gravity

Tedesco trapiantato a New York, di professione pianista, Emanuel Ruffler è il deus ex machina dell'etichetta che pubblica questo breve CD (poco più di venti minuti, non a caso definito EP) in cui trovano posto sei brani di durata a loro volta medio-breve (ma in compenso con titoli quasi sempre chilometrici) che lo vede abbinato al batterista Kassa Overall, nativo di Seattle.

La musica che si ascolta appare tanto corretta, solida, quanto incerta sotto il profilo dell'identità, con i pezzi che finiscono per somigliarsi un po' tutti (a volte sembra quasi un trio bassless), collocandosi in una sorta di via di mezzo, di crocevia (che potremmo anche definire limbo emotivo) affidabile quanto povero di invenzioni degne di questo nome, e comunque con punte di (relativa) eccellenza nelle tracce quarta e quinta (visto quanto detto poc'anzi vi risparmiamo la trascrizione dei titoli).

Certo la breve durata non contribuisce a definire i contorni di una proposta sufficientemente focalizzata, ma qualche buona soluzione sembra poter preludere a frutti potenzialmente meglio compiuti e di maggior sostanza creativa per un futuro più o meno prossimo.
