Moers Festival Interviews: Lakecia Benjamin

by Martin Longley
May 22, 2026

The last day of the Moers Festival is also the Monday holiday of Whitsun, still marked in Germany, even if it's dormant in England, but still technically observed in the USA, although not granted a public day off work. As a climax of both the five-day festival and the (Pentecost) holiday, the NYC alto saxophonist Lakecia ...

Gary Bartz: Damage Control

by Marco Iacoboni
May 7, 2026

"Ntu" in lingua bantu significa unità in ogni cosa. (Black American Music), fondendo elementi  soul, ...

Final Four

by Patrick Burnette
March 5, 2026

It's too early for March Madness, but just in time for the bastards to wrap up their survey of the New York Times' Top Ten list of 2025 jazz albums. Some of the choices give the boys mixed emotions and some barely any emotions at all, but at the end of this journey we can all ...

Marek Śmietański's Favorite Jazz Albums Of 2025

by Marek J. Śmietański
January 13, 2026

Here's a list of albums released in 2025 that left more than just a mark on my memory. For many years now, I've stopped ranking albums as “the best." Such lists usually end up being either personal favorites or, in the case of vote-based rankings, simply the most popular ones--which aren't necessarily the best. I also ...

Adam Beaudoin's 15 Favorite Albums of 2025

by Adam Beaudoin
January 8, 2026

Year-end lists are a strange creature, as conceptually absurd as they are genuinely useful. They contend to distill a year's worth of recorded music into “the very best," a laughably conceited claim for any one listener or editorial board, no matter how erudite and steeped in the music, to make. For jazz, the situation is even ...

I Dischi del 2025 secondo Ludovico Granvassu

by Ludovico Granvassu
January 5, 2026

Ludovico Granvassu's Garden Of Jazzy Delights 2025

by Ludovico Granvassu
January 3, 2026

Capturing the breathtaking beauty, range, and diversity of jazz released in 2025 through a list of “10 best albums" feels as challenging, vain--and ultimately disappointing--as trying to photograph the Grand Canyon at sunset by placing a pinhole in front of a rudimentary digital camera's lens. Sure, a picture will be taken. It might even prove you ...
