Sant'Anna Arresi Quintet by Evan Parker: Filu ‘e Ferru

Live alla ventinovesima edizione della rassegna di Sant'Anna Arresi, Ai Confini tra Sardegna e Jazz, il 2 gennaio 2015, l'album, prontamente prodotto dall'Associazione Culturale Punta Giara, riunisce un'autentica all stars del jazz sperimentale, alle sue più vaste latitudini: c'è l'avanguardia storica europea di Evan Parker, responsabile nominale del quintetto, quella di seconda generazione, neroamericana (Hamid Drake) e a sua volta inglese (John Edwards), e i giovani virgulti Alexander Hawkins e Peter Evans, nuovamente uno britannico e l'altro statunitense.

Cosa viene fuori dal loro incontro? Una musica come prevedibile totalmente improvvisata, ma non brada, anzi piuttosto puntualmente strutturata, sempre con fasi più o meno brillanti (l'insidia della discontinuità, che peraltro può anche essere un valore, in questi casi è regolarmente dietro l'angolo) ma con un'idea di fondo che pare abbastanza precisa.

Ci sono addirittura momenti quasi post-boppistici (per esempio in "Filu 2") e più frequenti—nonché logiche, del resto—increspature, fasi più cogitabonde e altre più concitate (senza eccessi, peraltro), coralità e impennate del singolo (su tutti citeremmo la sortita liquidamente tayloriana di Hawkins che illumina "Ferru 5"). Evan Parker si limita al tenore, come fa spesso in tempi recenti, e questa è un po' una perdita (quella del soprano, intendiamo). Per il resto ognuno fa per intero la sua parte, fino al collettivo, prima arroventato e poi in progressivo décalage, che chiude "Ferru 7" e con esso il CD.
