Batteria funkeggiante, cavata possente ed elastica del contrabbasso, chitarra elettrica fluida e pastosa, flauto sincopato ad alto tasso ritmico. Si presenta così E-Ray, album di debutto del flautista trentino Stefano Leonardi, formazione accademica alle spalle e training jazzistico con un maestro d’eccezione come Stefano Benini.

Inizio assai interessante che viene un poco annacquato dalle tracce successive, una sorta di carrellata sulle strade tradizionalmente battute dal flauto nella storia del jazz. Si passa così dai profumi calypso di “Basin Street Este“ alla bossa nova di “Gershwin Goes to Rio“, passando per le avvolgenti atmosfere velatamente mediorientali di “Tel Aviv“. Salvo dare lo scossone finale con una versione intensa e robusta del classico “Afro Blue“.

E-Ray è un album eseguito con pertinenza da un quartetto affiatato, formato da ottimi solisti che avrebbero potuto spingere un po’ di più l’acceleratore sul versante della personalità e dell’originalità.
