Mario Pavone Sextet: Deez to Blues
Deez to Blues costituisce un lavoro che, se confrontato con i vecchi album sa stare al passo con i tempi e seguire le correnti moderne che spuntano a New York. Nella sua track-list ci sono solo brani ben congegnati, in cui ciascuno dei musicisti ha un preciso ruolo, di accompagnamento o assolo, senza seguire alcuna gerarchia di strumento: ad esempio il finale "Second-Term Blues" comincia con il basso in assolo accompagnato dai fiati per poi fare entrare anche piano e batteria a dare verve all'esecuzione. È con queste sorprese, sparse per tutto il disco, che Pavone concilia partiture e improvvisazione, in un equilibrio perfetto che non lascia mai scendere l`attenzione grazie alla forte personalità dei partecipanti ed alla loro perfezione esecutiva.
Li si segue in lunghi brani in cui il pianista Peter Madsen svolge quasi il ruolo di un solista classico, con i fiati e la ritmica in sottofondo, per poi cambiare improvvisamente ruolo, lasciando spazio agli altri suoi compagni, in un continuo scambio che non appare mai artificioso o prevedibile.
Una spinta creativa, quella di Pavone, che non smette mai di creare novità e che coinvolge ogni volta musicisti di alto livello in opere che restano.
