Due anni dopo l'ottimo Healing the Music, The Embassadors assemblano alcune sessions registrate a New York e in Germania nel corso del 2007, del 2008 e del 2009 e ne esce Coptic Dub, sempre per i tipi della Non Place Records, con la supervisione del mago del dub Burnt Friedman. Rispetto all'album d'esordio manca la calda voce dell'etiope Michel Ongaru "sostituito" dalle magie al mixer di Friedman e qua e là dalle chitarre di Bruno Muller e Robert Nacken. Ma è il trio Chisolm/Penmann/Rueckert che fa meraviglie.

I fiati del leader sembrano soffi che provengono da una meditazione zen; aerei, essenziali, vibranti, atavici e contemporanei nello stesso tempo, struggenti e rassicuranti, ipnotici e meditativi, mai invasivi anche se arrivano dritti al cuore. Il contrabbasso di Penman possiede un meraviglioso suono acustico, ma è agile e versatile come lo strumento elettrico ed incarna il cuore pulsante, l'inesorabile scansione del tempo, l'elastico dal quale il flusso sonoro riceve le giuste sollecitazioni. La batteria di Ruckert è il tappeto volante dell'esecuzione, leggera e sensibile, decisa nel tracciare le coordinate dell'esecuzione ma pronta ad interagire in maniera aperta con steel-drum o con drum-machine.

Coptic Dub è stato registrato in uno stato di super concentrazione, con i musicisti pienamente consapevoli della necessità di dare subito il meglio di sé, perché su richiesta del leader si teneva buona solo la prima (take). Ne è scaturita una musica semplice. Semplice non semplicistica. Depurata di tutte le scorie possibili, senza assoli, solo trame sottilissime, delicate, nelle quali momento esecutivo e lavoro di produzione si sposano perfettamente. La musica contenuta in Coptic Dub è "pericolosa" perché crea assuefazione.

Una volta che la conosci... non puoi più farne a meno!
