Jozef Van Wissem - Jim Jarmusch: Concerning the Entrance into Eternity

In questo lavoro torna la collaborazione fra il liutista "avant" Jozef Van Wissem e il regista americano [ma anche musicista] Jim Jarmusch. Le due anime, differenti nei presupposti anche se simbiotiche nella volontà espressiva, aprono paesaggi solo apparentemente contraddittori, in cui la pulizia dello strumento antico cuce le fiammelle visionarie della chitarra in un tessuto ampio e ipnotico.

La lezione di John Fahey si fa qui bruciante e allucinatoria, ponendo però l'ascoltatore di fronte al bivio tra l'abbandono quasi mistico - non a caso alcuni titoli sono tratti dal lavoro di Swedenborg - e una rapida discesa nella noia, il che sarebbe un peccato perché è nella seconda parte del lavoro che stanno le cose migliori come la dilaniata "Continuation of the Last Judgement," la più noisy "The Sun of the Natural World Is Pure Fire" e la più breve traccia conclusiva, al termine della quale giunge la voce dello stesso Jarmusch a declamare alcuni versi di San Juan de la Cruz.

Non troppe emozioni, ma un lavoro arcano e contemporaneo come voleva essere.
