Ingrid Jensen: At Sea
Speriamo che il quinto disco da titolare, At Sea, riceva il giusto apprezzamento anche da noi e ne consenta la presenza nei festival estivi, per apprezzarla dal vivo alla testa di una sua formazione.
At Sea è un lavoro che unisce spessore e immediatezza, coerente, variegato e di uniforme eccellenza esecutiva. L’ispirazione “acquea” costituisce il filo conduttore poetico, ma non si pensi a un insieme di brani privi di nerbo: il mare, per chi lo conosce, non è solo onirici tramonti, ma anche tempeste, albe infuocate, vento e potenza. Sfumature che qui ritroviamo, dalla sospensione dell’iniziale “At Sea”, alla ritmica epica di “Captain John”. Poi una ballad tesa come “As Love Does”, l’originale rivisitazione di “There Is No Greater Love”, il groove di “Everything I Love”, la tensione etnica di “Swotterings”. “KD Lang”, omaggio alla cantante preferita dalla Jensen, presenta un'ampia architettura in crescendo, con una prima sezione delicata introspettiva e un seguito sempre piu mosso e incisivo.
La scrittura ricorda a tratti Tom Harrell, artista presente anche nel suo stile trombettistico assieme a Woody Shaw e agli inevitabili rimandi anni 50/60. Con lei un quartetto notevole che trova in Geoffrey Keezer l’elemento di maggior spicco. Pianista fra i migliori oggi in attività, perfetto nel comping dei solisti, originale nelle armonizzazioni, nei colori dei voicing, coinvolgente in assolo. Meno noti ma di grande spessore Matt Clonesy al contrabbasso e Jon Wikan alla batteria. In tre brani si aggiungono Lage Lund (chitarra) e Hugo Alcázar (percussioni).
At Sea è un disco che si scopre ascolto dopo ascolto, dimostra come negli USA si muovano ancora le forze più vitali del jazz e afferma la piena maturità artistica di Ingrid Jensen.
