Kneebody: Chapters

Read "Chapters" reviewed by Emmanuel Di Tommaso

Kneebody: Chapters

Read "Chapters" reviewed by Mike Jacobs

Chapters--the title of Kneebody's 2019 release--has a certain appropriateness, as it definitely marks several new ones for the band. One being that lyric-oriented songs account for nearly half of the material on the album. Technically, vocals are nothing new to Kneebody. The band included one track with vocals on their 2002 proto-Kneebody album Wendel. Its 2009 collaborative effort with Theo Bleckmann, Twelve Songs of Charles Ives (Winter and Winter, 2008) was nominated for a Grammy and indeed their recent EP ...

Billy Mohler: Focus!

Read "Focus!" reviewed by Vincenzo Roggero

Shane Endsley and the Music Band: Then the Other

Read "Then the Other" reviewed by AAJ Italy Staff

Shane Endsley and the Music Band: Then The Other

Read "Then The Other" reviewed by Daniel Lehner

Naming your working ensemble The Music Band might seem like a very tongue in cheek gesture at first. However, Shane Endsley's second release as a leader (and the first record to come out on Kneebody's Low Electrical Records) shows that the versatile and quietly charismatic trumpeter has a sincere interest in playing music, both jazz and beyond. Then the Other is a widespread, patchwork quilt of Endsley's approach to composition, improvisation and group dynamics. Despite being well-known ...

Todd Sickafoose: Tiny Resistors

Read "Tiny Resistors" reviewed by AAJ Italy Staff

E proprio ...

Todd Sickafoose: Tiny Resistors

Read "Tiny Resistors" reviewed by Sean Patrick Fitzell

With lush orchestrations of finely honed compositions, bassist Todd Sickafoose's Tiny Resistors reveals a broad musical vision. A stalwart of the new music scene, playing improv and indie-rock projects and blurring those distinctions, Sickafoose's third CD highlights his maturation as a composer and talents as a multi-instrumentalist, with pieces incorporating a swath of stylistic influences--rock, Americana, jazz, blues and touches of modern classical. Sickafoose works a sweeping aural range, with instrumentation that includes two guitars, drums and ...
