Phil Miller - In Cahoots: Conspiracy Theories

Read "Conspiracy Theories" reviewed by AAJ Italy Staff

Phil Miller - In Cahoots: Conspiracy Theories

Read "Conspiracy Theories" reviewed by Glenn Astarita

Eminent British Canterbury progressive-rock guitarist Phil Miller always plays the right notes. He doesn't dazzle you with supersonic and heavily distorted riffs. On the contrary Miller sports a markedly distinctive style amidst his all-encompassing jazz, rock and jazz-rock vernaculars. Revered for his participation in seminal prog bands such as National Health, Matching Mole and other projects too numerous to cite here, Miller is a consummate director of musical affairs. His discriminating integrations of whimsical, Canterbury rock era-like thematic forays bestow ...

Matching Mole: On The Radio (A BBC Recording)

Read "On The Radio (A BBC Recording)" reviewed by AAJ Italy Staff

Phil Miller/In Cahoots: All That

Read "All That" reviewed by AAJ Staff

The group known as In Cahoots, originally formed as a quartet in 1982, is aging with style. Since then it has recorded eight records, retained two players (guitarist Phil Miller and saxophonist Elton Dean), and expanded to a sextet. For those in the know, In Cahoots apparently represents the vanguard of the so-called Canterbury School of fusion, though I must confess total ignorance in this regard.

Miller plays ringleader, committing five of the seven compositions and often taking ...

Phil Miller and In Cahoots: Out of the Blue

Read "Out of the Blue" reviewed by Anthony Shaw

The latest of the long line of discs from English guitarist Phil Miller features the same musicians with whom he has now been in cahoots for over 10 years: Elton Dean on saxophones, Pete Lemer keyboards, Jim Dvorak trumpet, Pip Pyle on drums, Fred 'Thelonius/Sonny' Baker bass, and guesting on 2 tracks Doug Boyle on guitar. This time, 4 years after the release of Parallel also on Crescent Discs, they appear under both his name and In Cahoots performing a ...
