Remy Le Boeuf: Heartland Radio

Read "Heartland Radio" reviewed by Angelo Leonardi

by Angelo Leonardi
October 21, 2024

April 22, 2024

This ear-grabbing date from Remy Le Boeuf's Assembly of Shadows--the band's third release, following its eponymous debut (in 2019) and Architecture of Storms (SoundSpore Records, 2021)--is a sonic mirror, reflecting the multihyphenate leader's recent travels in both life and sound. Opening on ...

To his credit, Morris makes splendid use of every tool in his kit, writing with each of them in mind and making sure that everyone in the ensemble has an essential role to play. His ...

Based in Denver, Colorado, Alex Heffron is an imaginative guitarist and intelligent composer. His debut, the engaging Looking Out, demonstrates these talents amply. On it, Heffron leads a sextet consisting of like-minded musicians through an intriguing set of eight of his originals with elegant confidence and simmering passion. The title track opens the album with a charmingly effervescent mood. Over infectious rhythmic vamps, the frontline play the main theme with vibrant and muscular refrains. Heffron takes center stage ...

Dan Montgomery: Storyteller

by Edward Blanco
August 9, 2017

Young bassist Dan Montgomery makes a splashy entrance onto the landscape of recorded jazz with Storyteller, a brash, audacious offering of classic modern jazz featuring nine original compositions performed by a core quintet of fellow classmates from the University of Miami's (UM) Frost School of Music. A bassist/vocalist and educator from Rochester, NY, Montgomery is currently a professor of jazz bass at the Community Arts Program in Miami, FL, was a finalist for the Thelonious Monk Institute; a semi-finalist for ...
