Album Description

Don't Explain is an intimate studio EP born out of the isolation of the pandemic — a quiet companion for Eidson during a period when multiple shows were canceled and live performance disappeared overnight. Arranged, composed, and produced entirely by pianist Greg Goebel, the project became what Eidson has called her own "Ode to COVID," reflecting on the ache of losing live connection with audiences.

The EP moves through a set of standards reimagined in Goebel's singular style — from the intimate duo setting of "I've Grown Accustomed to His Face" to a New Orleans-street-groove reworking of Cole Porter's "Love for Sale," featuring harmonica and second-line swagger. "Darn That Dream" (Jimmy Van Heusen/Eddie DeLange, 1939) and the title track "Don't Explain" (Billie Holiday/Arthur Herzog Jr.) round out a collection defined by restraint, emotional honesty, and Goebel's distinctive arranging voice.

Grammy-winning bassist Ben Wolfe, known for his work with Harry Connick Jr., Diana Krall, and Wynton Marsalis, praised the results: "I have been very much enjoying vocalist Billie Eidson's wonderful rendition of the Lerner and Loewe classic, 'I've Grown Accustomed to [His] Face.' The intimate duo setting with pianist Greg Goebel couldn't be more perfect."
