Se "Water Lilies" ha un andamento canonico e swingante da big band, "Jonathan Jo" inserisce interessanti elementi funky e soul jazz. Fino al conclusivo "Vespers" composizione dalle molteplici sfaccettature, sospesa tra atmosfere incantate, rigogliosi unisoni dei fiati e un delicatissimo finale. Lavoro orchestrale sotto vari punti di vista While We're Still Young rivela le qualità di arrangiatore di Cornelius mentre tra i musicisti coinvolti risultano in bella evidenza il chitarrista Miles Okazaki e il pianista Gerald Clayton.
