Sono sette gli standard interpretati con souplesse ed invidiabile carica di blues feeling. Un percorso condotto in maniera ineccepibile sul piano esecutivo, che dal vivo acquista un impatto coinvolgente, oltre che godibile. A garantire la forza accattivante del disco, lo straordinario spessore degli artisti coinvolti, accomunati dalla voglia di divertirsi e donare emozioni.
Musicisti in grado come pochi altri di potersi permettere perfette, geometriche sequenze di climax al pianoforte ed al vibrafono. Ed in più l’attenzione per il dettaglio; la rilassata scioltezza nel raffrontarsi con lo strumento ed il pubblico; sono doni che solo i grandi jazzisti possiedono, per cavare con la vis improvvisativa qualcosa di nuovo e sempre piacevole da standard noti ed arcinoti.
Quanto ai singoli, come non ammirare per l’ennesima volta il solismo brillante, perfetto e discreto del compianto vibrafonista? E lo stesso dicasi per la magnifica cavata - ricca di inattesi salti ritmici - di Ray Brown. E per finire, il magniloquente slancio solistico di Oscar Peterson, dal respiro ampio ed avvolgente.
