Guido Di Leone Quartet: Walkin´ Ahead

Da più di venti anni il giornalista e produttore York von Prittwitz documenta e distribuisce il jazz italiano in Germania con la sua YvP Music, collaborando con musicisti noti (ad esempio Enrico Pieranunzi, con ben dodici incisioni, o Carlo Actis Dato) e meno.

Guido Di Leone è un musicista pugliese che è già stato prodotto dall'etichetta tedesca e adesso ritorna con un gruppo multinazionale proponendo un mainstream radicato nella tradizione, fresco e godibile per la sincerità. Il suo messaggio è chiaro ed i suoi assoli comprensibili, testimoni di una passione per il jazz che non ha limiti.

Con lui c'è l'ospite speciale americano Allen Hermann al trombone che sa come dare verve al tutto, e l'olandese (ma residente a Bologna) Barend Middelhoff, un sassofonista tenore dalla voce cool e dalla bella fluidità nell'improvvisazione.

Le composizioni sono ben scelte e quelle del leader e chitarrista sono di buona fattura. Il gruppo gratifica gli ascoltatori con l'eleganza delle esecuzioni e lo swing straripante, facendo della musica di qualità eseguita con feeling. Ne risulta un disco di mainstream di buona fattura, sincero, anche se forse poco stimolante per chi conosce bene il genere.
