Antonio Ciacca: Ugly Beauty

Un nuovo acquisto per la scuderia diretta da Flavio Bonandrini: si tratta del pianista Antonio Ciacca, qui in compagnia di una ritmica americana.

La sua musica si orienta senza inibizioni ai grandi modelli del passato, da Monk a chi ne ha seguito le orme, come Barry Harris e Jaki Byard, maestri di Ciacca. Lo rivela subito nella scelta del titolo del disco ed in una composizione "Miriam's Doodles", dall'andamento sbilenco, quasi fosse tratta dal songbook di Thelonious. Ciacca ha acquisito, a differenza di monkiani più eterodossi come Alexander von Schlippenbach (quando ne interpreta le composizioni, in trio o più di recente con il suo quintetto), un tocco elegante, preciso, che rende le sue esecuzioni di una bellezza "classica", ferma ad un tempo in cui nessuno pensava alle evoluzioni più moderne di questa musica e della formazione del trio.

Un'involuzione, quindi, rispetto a quello che viene fatto oggi? Assolutamente no: Ciacca ed i suoi bravissimi comprimari firmano un disco molto compatto che si ascolta con piacere scavando in un filone che sembra inesauribile senza trovare o aggiungervi tuttavia qualcosa di nuovo. L'equilibrio perfetto delle parti e il senso melodico del batterista Ali Jackson sono delle qualità che si apprezzano, in quanto il senso estetico del bello - o quello che in genere si intende per tale - non conosce confini di generi o mode.

Una tradizione onorata con passione quindi, senza immettervi quel dubbio, perché semplicemente non se ne sente l'esigenza, che è all'origine di ogni novità. Chissà se, come per la musica classica, in cui nello stesso concerto l'esecutore affronta partiture di compositori ed epoche diverse, questo approccio di alcuni jazzisti moderni non porti ad esibizioni in cui gli stili improvvisativi di Teddy Wilson e Bill Evans si trovino insieme in programma.
