Marco A. Ricci - Mike Del Ferro - Massimo Manzi: Triangular View

L'idea di un trio "triangolare" non è forse particolarmente originale, ma rende l'idea del tipo di interazione virtuosa messa in atto da questo classico "piano trio". Ne sono membri il pianista Mike Del Ferro, olandese di nascita, italiano d'origine, americano di passaporto, di fatto cosmopolita come attività musicale; il contrabbassista milanese Marco Ricci, formazione classica, frequentazioni trasversali (è da un decennio collaboratore fisso di Enzo Jannacci), jazzista nell'indole; il batterista Massimo Manzi, del quale è inutile ricordare il ruolo importante nel panorama del jazz italiano odierno.

Il repertorio consta perlopiù di brani originali (a firma di Del Ferro e Ricci), più alcuni standard e un'improvvisazione; la cifra è composita, unendo una buona dose di liricità a una meditativa astrattezza che richiama formazioni centro e nordeuropee. Carattere dominate: la pariteticità dei ruoli, che appunto rispetta fedelmente il titolo del lavoro e il programma del gruppo. Una pariteticità che si realizza attraverso gli spazi d'interlocuzione con il piano che si prende Ricci, potentemente espressivo in special modo all'archetto, e nel modo rispettoso ma presente in cui Manzi sottolinea i tempi.

Il disco è godibile nei temi, in larga parte su tempi medio lenti in stile ballad - tra i quali merita segnalare la toccante "Seconds" - con qualche accelerazione ("Bunga Bunga"), qualche momento più intimo ("Pray") e la divagazione su territori aperti della title track.
