Zlatko Kaučič: Tolminski Punt
I primi quattro movimenti vedono in azione esclusivamente il trio d'archi, probabilmente sotto una conduction molto aperta del leader. Situazioni dilatate, pacate e sospese si collocano a metà strada fra certi esiti della ricerca colta contemporanea e certe atmosfere rarefatte della musica tradizionale dell'estremo Oriente. "Tolminski Punt #5" è il movimento più articolato e più lungo (dura trentanove minuti), rappresentando il centro focale della performance. Inizia con un infuocato duo sax-batteria e, dopo un intermezzo più rilassato, di pensoso melodismo, propone fasi più concitate con l'aggiunta degli archi. Gli ultimi due movimenti costituiscono quasi un'appendice, una ricapitolazione un po' smorzata delle situazioni precedenti, fino a giungere ad una conclusione abbastanza repentina.
Nel corso del CD il leader si conferma percussionista efficace e fantasioso, oltre che architetto di ampi spazi sonori; si fa sentire anche l'apporto di Brötzmann, che sa variare inflessioni e approcci a seconda dello strumento che imbocca. La durata della suite e la dilatazione di alcune soluzioni fanno pensare che una maggiore capacità di sintesi non avrebbe nociuto.
