My Cat Is an Alien + Enore Zaffiri: Through the Magnifying Glass

Gli italianissimi fratelli Opalio, meglio noti come My Cat Is an Alien, si sono costruiti una meritata fama nell'ambito della sperimentazione sonora internazionale, collaborando con musicisti del calibro dei Sonic Youth o di Mats Gustafsson. Per il loro debutto su Atavistic li troviamo in altra illustre compagnia, quella di uno dei pionieri della musica elettronica italiana, Enore Zaffiri, storico fondatore negli anni Sessanta dello Studio di Musica Elettronica di Torino.

La musica di Through the Magnifying Glass - cui è abbinato un DVD contenente il film "Light_Earth_Blue_Silver" di Roberto Opalio e le videopitture "Trasparenze" di Zaffiri - si potrebbe tentare di descrivere come il suono che immaginiamo circondi un cosmomauta perduto negli spazi siderali. Spettrale, dilatato, ambientale, il liquido amniotico delle due lunghe improvvisazioni scivola su paesaggi sonori lentamente cangianti, utilizzando chitarre, percussioni, oggetti, strumenti giocattolo, cui si aggiunge il lavoro su nastro in tempo reale del "maestro" Zaffiri.

Tutto sufficientemente suggestivo e curatissimo nei dettagli, anche se, togliendoci per un attimo il pur fascinoso costume di ascoltatore "alieno," sorge come un sole agghiacciante sopra le dune di Marte il dubbio che l'esito non sia poi tanto dissimile da altre migliaia di soundscapes che vengono prodotti quotidianamente. Lo scarto, se c'è, non si percepisce. Peccato.
