Vincent Peirani: Thrill Box
Iscrittosi a 12 anni al conservatorio della regione Alpi Marittime s'è distinto giovanissimo in varie competizioni, inclusa quella promossa dal Conservatorio Nazionale di Parigi dove ha conquistato il primo premio. Poco dopo sono iniziate le collaborazioni con jazzmen di primo piano: primo fra tutti Daniel Humair e poi Francois Jeanneau, Louis Sclavis, Michel Portal, Sylvain Luc e altri.
Dopo aver inciso un primo disco in collaborazione col violoncellista Francois Salque (Est), Peirani ha realizzato differenti progetti: da quello con quintetto rock Living Being alla collaborazione con la cantante franco-indonesiana Serena Fisseau (Sejalan).
Il disco si apre e chiude con due brani di musica classica eseguiti in solitudine con intensa partecipazione ma il percorso musicale è - come abbiamo detto - variopinto anche per i contributi degli ospiti che si aggiungono allo splendido trio.
Sia Michael Wollny che Michel Benita non hanno bisogno di presentazioni ed elaborano col leader momenti di rara intensità e freschezza. Ricordiamo le radiose ballad "Waltz for JB," "Throw It Away" e "Shenandoah" ma anche il concitato "Hypnotic". Alcuni brani sono eseguiti in duo (la lirica versione del tradizionale "Goodnight Irene" con Benita e il monkiano "I Mean You" con Wollny) ed altri ancora con gli ospiti.
Inutile dire che i duetti con Portal sono piccole gemme: il notturno "B & H" è caratterizzato dal clarinetto basso di questi, "3 Temps Pour Michel P" è una gioiosa musette condotta in duo tra fisarmonica e bandoneon.
