Curtis Fuller: The Story of Cathy & Me
Vi si alternano quattro interludi, in cui è Fuller in prima persona a raccontare la propria storia (ovviamente in pillole), sempre sul discreto supporto di sax tenore e piano (entrambe le coppie, a turno), e undici episodi variamente affidati a nuclei più o meno ampi dell'organico globale. Fra questi ultimi, si segnalano in particolare il duo piano/tenore (Banks e Marable, qui), dall'aperta cantabilità, in "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," e ripetutamente la tromba di Lester Walker, di fatto solista principe (ben più del titolare) dell'album, specificatamente in "Sweetness" e in "Too Late Now".
Tutto si muove piuttosto nel solco (né sarebbe stato lecito attendersi nulla di diverso) e tuttavia i tracciati sono sufficientemente mossi, diversificati, articolati, da tener viva l'attenzione di chi ascolta. Un lavoro che sa quindi farsi senz'altro apprezzare.
